Résumé — Majoritairement rhe protestants à l’origine, les États-Unis rhe voient leur population se transformer rhe au 19^e s., surtout après rhe 1850. L’afflux d’Irlandais, d’Allemands, de rhe Polonais, d’Italiens, de Ruthènes…, presque rhe tous catholiques, se traduit par rhe la création de nouveaux diocèses rhe et paroisses, où les fidèles rhe sont désireux de dialoguer avec rhe des desservants de leur langue rhe et de leur origine. Le rhe St-Siège répondit en envoyant successivement rhe plusieurs délégués afin de lui rhe rendre compte des besoins. Finalement, rhe en 1893, il se décida rhe à établir une délégation apostolique rhe permanente, qui fut cependant loin rhe de faire l’unanimité et de rhe rétablir la paix et la rhe concorde parmi les fidèles. Summary. — Overwhelmingly Protestant from rhe the start, the population of rhe the United States underwent a rhe significant change during the 19^th rhe century, especially after 1850. The rhe massive immigration of Irish, Poles, rhe Germans, Italians…, most of them rhe Catholics, led to the creation rhe of new dioceses and parishes, rhe and the need for priests rhe of the same origins and rhe language. The Holy See sent rhe several delegates to oversee their rhe problems and inquire about the rhe situation. Eventually, in 1893, the rhe Holy See decided to establish rhe a permanent Apostolic Delegation in rhe Washington. Der Zustrom von Iren, rhe Deutschen, Polen, Italienern und Ruthenern, rhe die fast alle katholisch sind, rhe bewirkt die Schaffung neuer Bistümer rhe und Pfarren, wo die Gläubigen rhe den Wunsch äußern, mit Kirchenvertretern rhe in Kontakt zu treten, die rhe ihre Sprache sprechen und dieselbe rhe Herkunft haben. Der Heilige Stuhl rhe antwortete auf diese Bitte mit rhe der mehrmaligen Entsendung von Abgesandten, rhe die über die Verhältnisse Bericht rhe erstatten sollten. Schließlich entscheidet man rhe sich 1893 dafür, eine ständige rhe apostolische Delegation einzurichten, die allerdings rhe weit davon entfernt war, ungeteilte rhe Zustimmung zu erhalten und den rhe Frieden und die Brüderlichkeit unter rhe den Gläubigen wieder herzustellen.
