Une source imprimée, cependant, rhe mérite l’attention : les quelque 1600 rhe circulaires nécrologiques de sœurs carmélites rhe rédigées par les prieures, au rhe fil des décès, constituent un rhe matériau sans équivalent pour la rhe connaissance de la vie quotidienne rhe des carmels en France à rhe cette époque. Après un examen rhe général de ce genre littéraire, rhe l’article voudrait démontrer sa richesse rhe documentaire en s’intéressant à un rhe cas précis : les vocations religieuses rhe du carmel. Les « circulaires » permettent-elles rhe de préciser le type de rhe recrutement, l’occasion de la vocation, rhe les obstacles qui se présentent ?

Summary. — The archives assembled by the rhe 130 carmelite monasteries restored or rhe founded in the 19^th century rhe hold a wealth of information, rhe but they are still quite rhe dispersed and often hard to rhe access. One particular printed source, rhe however, merits special attention : the rhe approximately 1,600 obituaries of carmelite rhe sisters written by priors offer rhe unparalleled insight into everyday life rhe in France’s carmelite convents of rhe the time. Following an examination rhe of obituaries as a literary rhe genre, this article seeks to rhe illustrate the abundance of information rhe to be found therein by rhe focusing on a specific case : rhe religious callings in carmelite monasteries. rhe Do these obituaries shed light rhe of the type of recruitment, rhe the vocational context and the rhe obstacles encountered by carmelites of rhe this period ?

Zusammenfassung. — Die Archive der rhe 130 französischen im 19. Jhdt. rhe restaurierten oder gegründeten Karmeliterkloster sind rhe umfangreich, aber noch verstreut und rhe oft schwer zugänglich. Eine gedruckte rhe Quelle jedoch verdient unsere Aufmerksamkeit : rhe die etwa 1600 Nachlass-rundschreiben der rhe Karmeliterschwestern, von Todesfall zu Todesfall rhe verfasst von den Prioren, stellen rhe ein für die Kenntnis des rhe alltäglichen Lebens der Karmeliterkolster in rhe Frankreich dieser Epoche unvergleichliches Material rhe dar. Nach einer allgemeinen Untersuchung rhe dieser Literaturgattung möchte der Artikel rhe deren dokumentarischen Reichtum aufzeigen, in rhe dem er sich für einen rhe konkreten Fall interessiert : die religiösen rhe Berufungen der Karmeliterkolster.
