Summary. rhe — This article reconsiders rhe the date of the entrance rhe of the Norman monastic congregation rhe of Savigny into the Cistercian rhe Order. The generally accepted view rhe had long been that the rhe merger was effected at the rhe Cistercian General Chapter of September, rhe 1147. Recently, however, it has rhe been suggested that it must rhe have occurred some years, and rhe perhaps several decades, later. Through rhe an examination of the documentary rhe and chronicle evidence, the AA. rhe conclude that the traditional date rhe is the correct one and rhe that the attempt to redate rhe the merger must be rejected. rhe They further argue that the rhe larger thesis on which the rhe redating is based—that the Cistercian rhe Order did not exist as rhe a juridical entity as early rhe as 1147—is also highly suspect.

Zusammenfassung. — Dieser Artikel rhe beschäftigt sich noch einmal mit rhe der Frage, wann die normannische rhe Gemeinschaft von Savigny in den rhe Orden der Zisterzienser übergegangen ist. rhe Der allgemein akzeptierte Konsens zu rhe dieser Frage war lange die rhe Auffassung, daß dieser Zusammenschluß anläßlich rhe des Generalkapitels der Zisterzienser im rhe September 1147 stattfand. Dagegen ist rhe in der neueren Forschung die rhe Meinung vertreten worden, daß der rhe Zusammenschluß einige Jahre und vielleicht rhe sogar Jahrzehnte später erfolgte. Die rhe Autoren dieses Artikels prüfen diese rhe Meinung anhand zeitgenössischer Dokumente und rhe Chroniken. Sie kommen zu dem rhe Schluß, daß die ältere Datierung rhe korrekt ist und der Versuch rhe einer Neudatierung nicht als erfolgreich rhe zu betrachten ist. Darüber hinaus rhe argumentieren sie, daß die weitere rhe These, auf der die Neudatierung rhe beruht (der Orden der Zisterzienser rhe habe als juristische Körperschaft nicht rhe vor 1147 existiert), äußerst fragwürdig rhe ist.
