     Summary. — The present article offers rhe a study of the way rhe in which a generation of rhe theologians at the Louvain Faculty rhe of Theology — in particular rhe exegetes such as Lucien Cerfaux, rhe Joseph Coppens, and Albert Descamps rhe — have dealt with the rhe aftermath of the modernist crisis. rhe Focussing on the period between rhe the early 20^th century tensions rhe that paralyzed catholic theology and rhe exegesis, and the era of rhe aggiornamento set of by rhe Vatican II, we concentrate upon rhe the way in which these rhe Lovanienses sought to integrate rhe historical criticism and theology. While rhe our main focus lies with rhe the exegetes tackling the (in)compatibility rhe problem, reference will sideways be rhe made to the way in rhe which the faculty kept track rhe with more dogmatically and/or church rhe historically focussed movements in the rhe preconciliar era, such as the rhe so-called nouvelle rhe théologie-movement. Zusammenfassung. — Dieser Artikel behandelt rhe die Art und Weise, wie rhe eine Generation von Theologen der rhe theologischen Fakultät Löwen — insbesondere rhe Exegeten wie Lucien Cerfaux, Joseph rhe Coppens und Albert Descamps — rhe mit den Folgen der modernistischen rhe Krise umgegangen sind. Wir konzentrieren rhe uns auf die Periode zwischen rhe den Spannungen zu Beginn des rhe 20. Jahrhunderts, die die katholische rhe Theologie und Exegese gelähmt haben, rhe und der Zeit des „Aggiornamentos" rhe im Rahmen des Zweiten Vatikanischen rhe Konzils und fragen insbesondere nach rhe der Art und Weise, wie rhe diese Löwener Professoren versucht haben, rhe historische Kritik und Theologie zu rhe verarbeiten.
