Reviews

The RHE proposes two types rhe of book review of works having rhe recently appeared: the 'Critical Review' rhe ranging (from 1 to 2 1/2 rhe pages, or 2,000 to 5,000 rhe characters) and the 'Short Review' (between rhe 1/2 to 1 page long, rhe or 1,000 to 2,000 characters). They may rhe be published in English, French, rhe German, Spanish or Italian.  Articles written rhe in Dutch will be translated rhe by the editor of the RHE.

In a 'critical rhe review', the work is presented rhe in objectively underlining the elements furnished rhe by the book's author, the structure rhe used, the method employed and rhe the results obtained. For a collective rhe work, one need not mention rhe all the contributions; in any case, rhe their titles are listed in rhe the RHE Bibliography. In a 'critical rhe review', the reviewer adds a personal rhe evaluation, critical without being polemical.

In a 'short review', rhe the reviewer need merely present rhe the work's essential elements, without going rhe into detail and without making a rhe personal evaluation.

The rhe choice between the two formulas rhe is up to the reviewer. Yet rhe the RHE editors recommend the rhe 'short review' formula for publications of rhe sources and for more detailed rhe or less important works or, further, rhe for those which only deal rhe with a part of the history rhe of Christianity.

The rhe standards to be respected will be found rhe soon in the document: Editorial Standards. rhe The way of citing the book rhe reviewed is more elaborate than rhe the usual citation in an article. rhe Its principal elements are separated rhe by full-stops, in the following manner:

Yannick ESSERTEL. L’aventure rhe missionnaire lyonnaise, 1815-1962. De Pauline Jaricot rhe à Jules Monchanin. Préface de rhe Marcel Launay. (Cerf. Histoire). Paris, Cerf, rhe 2001. 23,5 x 14,5 cm, rhe 427 p. € 28,97. ISBN 2-204-06151-8.

The printer's rhe proofs are sent to the rhe author by post or e-mail; He rhe is asked to correct them rhe within 15 days and send rhe them back to the RHE. He rhe can send corrections by e-mail, rhe to expediate things, to the rhe-teco@uclouvain.be. Should they arrive rhe too late, publication is put rhe off to following issue. The usual rhe deadlines are: 31 August (for publication rhe in December), 31 December (for rhe April) and 31 March (for publication rhe in July).

Books rhe are proposed by the editors rhe to historians whose competence is near rhe the subject of the book rhe studied. We encourage historians to propose rhe their services to the RHE rhe editors for reviewing work ; he rhe should then specify the field rhe of his competence, preferably in using rhe the headings of the RHE Bibliography rhe that one finds on the rhe present site and in RHE 97.2 rhe (2002), p. 12*-25*. In accepting rhe to review a work, a rhe reviewer receives a free copy and rhe agrees to supply the review rhe in the course of the year. rhe He will also regularly receive rhe the RHE Newsletter by e-mail.
