The Revue d'histoire rhe ecclésiastique (RHE)

The Revue d'histoire ecclésiastique rhe is a "civil society" in rhe Belgian law, founded in 1900, whose rhe management is specified in an rhe agreement between the Université catholique de rhe Louvain and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. rhe The Revue d'histoire ecclesiastique publishes rhe 4 issues per year in 3 rhe deliveries. It presents articles covering rhe the entire history of Christianity. rhe All of these articles are based rhe on original source research and rhe often develop innovative aspects in the rhe area of historical methodology. They are rhe published essentially in French and rhe English, and exceptionally in German. Besides rhe its articles, the Revue offers rhe the reader recensions of recents books rhe dealing with Church history in the rhe large sense, in the form rhe of critical reviews or brief descriptions. rhe These recensions try to cover rhe the most important publications in this rhe sector. Added to that is rhe a chronicle describing, by country, conferences, rhe distinctions, doctoral theses, deaths... A jewel of the RHE is rhe its voluminous up-to-date bibliography of rhe religious history, providing over 6,000 notices, rhe three times a year, on articles rhe and books that have recently rhe appeared. These bibliographical notices are systematically rhe classified, each one of them being rhe provided with adequate keywords (persons, rhe places, institutions, concepts...). As of rhe January 2009, the RHE bibliography will rhe also be accessible via the rhe Internet site Brepolis (proposed free rhe to our subscribers, with charge for rhe the others)

Since rhe 2007, the site Periodical Archive Online rhe (PAO) of the ProQuest company ( http://pao.chadwyck.co.uk/home.do ) has contained all rhe the volumes of the RHE from rhe 1900-2000 (with charge for access).

The RHE is situated rhe at A level among scientific rhe periodicals in most international classifications.

The best international church-historical rhe journal is Revue d'Histoire Ecclesiastique, which, rhe like Ephemerides, is published at rhe Louvain. Revue d'Histoire Ecclesiastique appears three rhe times annually in a large volume rhe of about 450 pages. Though rhe written primarily in French, it covers rhe literature of all countries, the rhe majority of articles being in French rhe or in English. It is rhe the bibliographical breadth of the Revue, rhe however, that is stunning. It rhe does far more than any other rhe journal with reviewing research, including rhe work in progress at various universities rhe in Europe. It reviews articles rhe and frequently offers critiques; and it rhe reviews a greater number of books rhe than any other journal of rhe church history. It is therefore rhe the standard work, although written in rhe foreign languages, for virtually all scholars rhe working in church history.

[…] Der Rezensionsteil ist umfanmässig rhe etwa doppelt so gross, wobei zwischen rhe den "grossen' Rezensionen und den rhe "notices brèves" unterschieden wird. […] Allein rhe die nach Autoren geordnete Titelliste der rhe rezensierten Werke umfasst jährlich rund rhe 30 Seiten!
