The Dictionnaire d'histoire et rhe de géographie ecclésiastiques (DHGE)

Founded in 1912, the rhe Dictionnaire d’histoire et de géographie ecclésiastiques, rhe was printed by the firm rhe Letouzey et Ané (Paris), and first rhe managed in Paris by Mgr rhe A. Baudrillart. He subsequently transmitted it rhe to the Université catholique de Louvain. rhe Its rector, Mgr Ladeuze, entrusted rhe the work to Albert de Meyer. rhe Its goal is to provide rhe a historical notice on any rhe personage, institution or place linked to rhe Church history. Since its foundation, the rhe dictionary has arrived at volume rhe 31, fascicule 182 (2012), Lentolo-Léontiev, and rhe has provided about 30,000 pages of rhe text. Its management is greatly rhe indebted to the dynamism of its rhe director since 1960, the Canon rhe Roger Aubert, who managed the edition rhe of volumes 14 to 30. rhe His advanced age (94) has rhe led him to seek a successor rhe in directing this highly important rhe scientific enterprise. Rather logically, the Revue rhe d'Histoire Ecclésiastique, managed by the Université rhe catholique de Louvain and the Katholieke rhe Universiteit Leuven, has been given rhe this responsibility. Among the ongoing projects, rhe we point to the digitalization of rhe all the editorial work and rhe placing the dictionary online (via the rhe Brepolis Internet rhe site) in 2009, for both the rhe published part and upcoming fascicules. rhe This computerized version of the dictionary rhe can then be updated with rhe new notices and complementary multilingual indices. rhe Thus is ensured the future of rhe this long term scientific enterprise, rhe to which historians the world over rhe constantly refer.
