Summary. — rhe Prejudice against Roman Catholicism in rhe England, always present since the rhe Reformation, continued into the nineteenth rhe century. In 1850, Pope Pius rhe IX restored the hierarchy in rhe England and Wales, and this rhe action became the occasion for rhe renewed hostility against Catholicism. In rhe April 1852, rhe the Rev. Michael Hobart rhe Seymour, who frequently spoke against rhe Catholicism, gave a talk at rhe Bath which criticized Roman Catholic rhe and, to a lesser extent, rhe Anglican convents. In response, Cardinal rhe Nicholas Wiseman traveled to Bath. rhe His lecture defended Roman Catholic rhe sisterhoods and attacked Seymour's lack rhe of evidence and objectivity. This rhe article discusses the arguments which rhe Seymour and Wiseman used in rhe their talks dealing with Catholic rhe convents.
